Aims and ambitions

Deep East Arts aims to:

• Become a directory of all artists, venues, groups and collectives, initiatives, and activities in the East of England
• To be used by all of the groups above and its audiences as a way of getting information on what to see or be a part of giving a greater understanding of what is happening in the East
• Provide a chance distribute in interesting ways
• Provide a chance to sell your work
• Build a strong network of peers in the region through:

• Being the first point of contact for arts in the region
• Heralding and promoting all creative activity in the East of England
• Becoming a platform for creative thinking and exchange of ideas
• Helping enable all arts, especially arts that don’t often get a fair voice

Deep East is a cooperative that holds the idea that it is for everyone, at its heart. It is always expanding and reacting according to what the East has to offer and is always open to new people getting involved. You can get involved at any level with Deep East, from just adding your artist profile, to writing reviews, to the running of the website. By getting involved with Deep East we hope to also give people the chance to gain skills to help with their development.

The site also relies on you, the visitor, to help us achieve our aims by telling us who you are and what is happening where you live.

Key to Deep East Arts are these core concepts: profiling, support, networking, enabling, exhibiting, selling and distributing.           

Profiling

Essential  to our success is our priority aim: to profile every artist in the East of England. Each artist can have their own page on the site with photos and descriptions supplied by the artist. Each artist page is an instant connection to arts in the region and will enable each artist to have a voice and a place to communicate their ideas from. Each page may include films, images, music, links to other sites website etc.

If you would like to be a profiled artist then please send us images of your work along with your artist statement. Please click this link to see an example of a profile page.

Hand in hand with the profiling is the opportunity to create a database and mailing list for artists. Through this we aim to make it easy and seamless to find opportunities and make audiences aware of your work and activities, broadening as far as possible, the base of people we reach.

Support

We believe that no artist should exist alone, so we intend to arrange critiques, peer to peer sessions and private tutorials, stimulating conversation between artists and their work and trying to enable you in your ideas.

Networking

Deep East will create a strong network of artists in the region helping our users to familiarise themselves with what the East has to offer and connect with artists and venues in the area.

Exhibiting

The comprehensive database will also be a resource to draw on for exhibition opportunities. The ever expanding directory of artists may be used for exhibitions, events and publications.

Our eventual hope is to set up our own venue, (this is of course a long way off).

Selling and Distribution

This is a chance to finally make some money from your work (or just give it away if that’s what you want), more than this, it gives you a chance to put some stuff out there and get seen.
